Players and officials paid tribute to the former Hanwha Eagles pitcher before the start of the Korea Baseball Organization awards ceremony. According to Hanwha Eagles news reports, Kim Sung-hun died after falling off the top of a nine-story building to a seventh-floor balcony in Gwangju.
Kim was the son of former player and now Kia Tigers coach Kim Min-ho. The 21-year old pitcher had 25 games in two years playing in the KBO. Sports chat had nothing but kind words for the fallen pitcher.
Tigers’ pitcher Yang Hyeon-jong talked about Kim when he received the award for the best ERA title. He tried to hold back his tears as he remembered the left-hander. He shared that whenever Tigers’ coach Kim talked about his son, he always described him as a hard-working child. However, he failed to continue with his dream.
KBO’s Tribute to Former Hanwha Eagles Pitcher
Park Byung-ho of the Kiwoom Heroes won the home run king title. During his acceptance speech, he offered his condolences to the pitcher’s family. Also, Kia infielder Park Chan-ho said they the team will have their coach’s back.
Park told sports betting outlets that the coach treats them as his children. He added that he wants the coach to know that many of the Tigers see him as their father figure in the team.
After his fall, the Eagles’ pitcher was immediately rushed to a hospital. However, the staff pronounced him dead when he arrived. Police officers confirmed the information. They analyzed the CCTV footage from the accident and concluded that there was no foul play.
