Now that the MLB World Series is over it is time for players to start receiving awards for their accomplishments. This time we are talking about the Rawlins Gold Glove Award or simply “Gold Glove or “Golden Glove”. This is an award that is given to MBL players for exhibiting superior individual fielding performance. However, for Korean MLB fans and Padres fans, this year is different. This is because Kim Ha-seong Wins the Gold Glove Award for the utility spot.
According to sports betting news, the announcement of the Golden Glove award winners were made Sunday evening on ESPN. Furthermore, they were 13 first-time winners and is the fourth consecutive year where they were at least 10 first-time winners.
Players get chosen for a Golden Glove award by votes. The votes come from 30 MLB managers and up to 6 coaches from each team.
Kim Ha-seong Wins the Gold Glove Award – The First South Korean to Win the Award
In the MLB there are about 12 professional baseball players from South Korea. However, none has ever won the Gold Glove Award until now! In fact, no Asian infielder has even won a golden glove award. Needless to say, the entire Asian baseball community is proud of Kim Ha-seong for his achievement.
According to baseball betting news, Kim is the second South Korean to even be a finalist for a Gold Glove. Previously, Choo Shin-soo, was a finalist in 2012 for the American League Gold Glove right field position. Unfortunately, he did not get enough votes to win the award.
To win the award, Kim beat Mookie Betts and Tommy Edman who were also up for the award.
Kim Ha-Seong said that it is a great personal achievement. However, he is happier “to show kids in Asia that they can play infield” in the MLB and succeed. Especially since there is a stigma that Asian infields have a low success rate in the big league.
Kim began his professional baseball career in 2014 with the Heroes during the 2014 KBO draft. During his time with the Heroes, Kim won the KBO Golden Glove Award in 2018 and 2020. After a successful career with the Kiwoom Heroes, Kim Ha-seong went to play for the San Diego Padres in 2020. In addition, his contract with San Diego Padres is worth $28 million for the duration of 4 years. Furthermore, there is a mutual option for the 2025 baseball season.
For the San Diego Padres, this is great news as teammate, Fernando Tatis Jr. also won a Gold Glove award.
