Yesterday, matchday 7 of the K League 1 season came to an end with many surprises. However, the biggest one came for those who like to bet on football and fans of Ulsan Hyundai FC. This is because Daejeon was able to pull off another upset and won against Ulsan. At the end of the day, the football news headline was Daejeon Defeats Ulsan 2-1.
The match took place at the Daejeon World Cup Stadium which gave Daejeon the home advantage. However, despite that advantage, most football fans were expecting Ulsan to win or at the very least tie the game. Needless to say, they were all wrong.
Daejeon Defeats Ulsan and Puts an End to their Bid for K League History
The game began with an exciting start as just 9 minutes into the game. This is thanks, to a goal by Lee Jin-hyun, giving Daejeon an early lead. However, the lead by Daejeon Hana Citizen did not last very long. This is because eighteenth minute, Gustav Ludwigson made a goal for Ulsan to tie the game.
Tying the game would not be the ideal outcome for Ulsan. However, it would allow them to continue their attempt at the K-League season opening record of a seven-game winning streak. Unfortunately for them, Lee Hyun-sik made a goal for Daejeon during the end of the first half of the game.
Ulsan was unable to score for the rest of the game which led to a 2-1 victory for Daejeon. While Ulsan remains in first in the ranking, this lost put an end to their bid for K League history.
On the other hand, this win puts Daejeon third in the K-League ranking with 14 points with a 4-2-1 record. For the rookie team that just got their promotion into the K League 1, this is an amazing achievement. The entire season, they have shown Korean football betting fans that they are not an underdog team.
If they continue to play at this level, there will be no relegation for them this year. Especially since Gangwon and Suwon has not won a game yet this year.
