In the latest National Football Team News, South Korea bids goodbye to their dreams of winning an AFC Asian Cup this year. Last Friday, the team lost 1-0 against Qatar in the quarterfinal match at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

According to the rules on the national team membership, players who are in their 30’s now may not be playing by the time the next Asian Cup happens. The next one will be on 2023. One of the players who has lost the chance to win a championship for his country is Ki Sung-yueng. Ki is 30 years old, but has been playing with the idea of retiring from the national team. Initially, the plan is to quit after the 2018 World Cup. But upon Coach Bento’s request, Ki stayed on.
Ki is also one of the most experienced players in the current National Team lineup. There are five players, Ki included, who are playing their third AFC Asian Cup this year.
