Lee Kyoung-hoon may feel like he’s in the Korean survival drama series “Squid Game,” which was made for Netflix.
Lee is three spots outside the top 70 in the FedExCup standings with only this week’s Wyndham Championship left in the PGA Tour’s 2022-23 Regular Season.
Tom Kim (also known as Kim Si-woo), Kim Si-woo (18th), Im Sung-jae (36th), and An Byeong-hun (52nd) are all guaranteed starts at next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first of three Playoffs events, but Lee (31), who would like to extend his Playoffs appearance streak to five seasons, must finish in the top 30 this week.
Lee Kyoung-hoon at Wyndham Champion
After a promising start to the season with two top-10 results, Lee maintained his position in the top 70 in the FedExCup standings with a string of solid performances. Since June, though, his normally fluid game has gone awry, and he has now failed to make the cut in six of his past seven games, putting him on the outside looking in for the Playoffs.
According to Korean sports league news reports, this is his seventh time playing at Sedgefield, which has previously hosted Korean winners Kim Si-woo (2016) and Tom Kim (2017). (2022). At the Wyndham Championship two years earlier, Lee finished in a tie for twenty-fourth.
He is not just competing for a spot in the Playoffs, but also for a top-50 finish, which would give him a starting spot in all of the scheduled tournaments for the upcoming season.
