American College football or NCAA Football season is starting this weekend in the U.S. For many sports bettors, College football betting is a great way to have fun and make some money betting on football. This is because there are a lot more games to bet on then normal NFL betting. Therefore, now is the perfect time to learn with our Easy guide to betting on College Football
Even though college football rules are a little different then NFL rules, the wagering is more or less the same. This is because in essence, it is the same game and therefore, uses the same type of sports betting odds. However, for people that like to bet on the over/under, college football games tend to have higher scores.
Guide to Betting on College Football
For this tutorial on NCAA football betting, we will go over the most common and popular types of bets. Needless to say, we are talking about the simplest and easiest bets to make.
College Football Betting on the Money Line
Florida State -220
In this example, Florida State is the favorite team to win as its Money Line odds are at -220. This means that a bettor needs to wager $220 in order to win $100. If the bettor wants to bet on the underdog, they need to wager $100 to win $180.This type of wager is basically picking the winner of the matchup and it could not be any simpler.
However, betting on the money line is not for everyone. This is because betting on a favorite when it is between a strong and a weak team has little return. For example, if the Florida State was playing Eastern Michigan, the odds on the favorite would probably be around -600.
NCAA Football Betting on the Point Spread
Betting on the point spread is another popular method to bet on football. This is because the sportsbook gives or takes extra points to a team to equalize the final score. Here is an example of point spread odds:
Florida State -3.5 -110
Alabama +3.5 -110
In this case, Florida State is still the favorite team to win. However, they have been given a handicap of -3. This means that in order to win your bet, Florida State has to win the game by 3.5 points. The number after the point spread is the cost or the commission by the sportsbook. Therefore, -110 means you risk $110 to win $100.
On the other hand, you have Alabama as the underdog with a +3.5 point spread. This means that as long as Alabama does not lose by over 3.5 points, you win your bet!
College Football Betting on the Over/Under
The type of American college football wager we will teach you about is the over/under bet. For this bet you wager on whether the final score will be over or under a certain number. Here is an example:
Florida State O 55.5 -110
Alabama U 55.5 -110
There is no favorite on the over/under bet. You just bet on whether the final score of the game will go over 55.5. The number at the end -110 is the commission which is 10% which means that you bet $100 to $90.
