One of the most prominent South Korean athletes at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, short track speed skater Shim Suk-hee, continued her training on Thursday, with her first event scheduled for this week.
“I’m in good condition as I try to adjust myself to the Olympics,” Shim said after her training at Gangneung Ice Arena in Gangneung, the sub-host city of all ice events at the 2018 Winter Games. The ice rink will host all short track speed skating races.

The female skater will start her events on Saturday, a day after the official opening of the Olympics. It will be with the heats for the 500 meter and the 3,000m relay. The 175-centimeter skater boasts superior physical strength compared to other teammates, making her one of the most competitive athletes on the ice.
Shim grabbed a gold in the 3,000m relay at the 2014 Winter Games. This is where she also won a silver and a bronze in women’s 1,500m and 1,000m, respectively. This year, Shim is competing in all four races — 500m, 1,000m, 1,500m and 3,000m relay.
“I had a hard time coming here. So I will try my best to have satisfactory races. So that I will not be disappointed in myself,” Shim said.
