For Ji, this is his first career gold at the Asian Games with a record time of 21.72 seconds. He beat Ho Ian Yentou of Hong Kong for the gold by 0.15 second. In addition, this is South Korea’s first swimming gold medal in Hangzhou.
Gold in the Fencing Competition – Oh Sang-uk of South Korea won the gold medal in the men’s individual sabre. Furthermore, he won gold by defeating his compatriot Gu Bon-gil who had been the reigning sabre Asiad champion. On the women’s side, Choi In-jeong won the gold medal in women’s individual epee.
Gold in Shooting Event –Korea got its first ever gold medal in shooting after winning the men’s 10-meter running target team title. The trio of shooters, Kwak Yong-bin, Ha Kwang-chul and Jeong You-jin got a total of 1,668 points for the win.
However, there was a bit of tension on the podium between the North and South Korean team. This is because the North Korean team did not want to join the South Korean team for a group photo. In total, South Korea got 1 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze in shooting.
League of Legends eSports Event – The LOL Korean eSports team went into the Asian Games in Hangzhou with big expectations and with good reasons. This is because the team is made up of some of the best eSports athletes around the globe. Thus, they easily made it thru the first day by defeating Kazakhstan in only 17 minutes. Since a match usually takes twice as long, the Korean team deserve to be the favorite for the gold medal.
More Medals for South Korea at the Asian Games
South Korea gets Gold in Taekwondo – Jang Jun of South Korea got the gold medal in his first Asiad taekwondo appearance, winning the men’s -58kg title. He did this by defeating Mahdi Hajimousaeinafouti of Iran 2-0. Of course, as the birthplace of taekwondo, most sportsbooks had betting odds favoring Korea for a medal.
South Korea Get Silver in Judo – Lee Joon-hwan of South Korea got the silver medal in the men’s 81kg event. Unfortunately, he lost to Somon Makhmadbekov of Tajikistan by waza-ari, or a half point during the final match. Furthermore, Lee Ha-rim also won a silver in the men’s -60 kilograms.
